The Roaring Twenties of Silent Hollywood Movies got the attention of a 19 year old young man in Brooklyn New York and suddenly he took off with a friend of his and they headed West in his ModelT Ford. "Go West Young Man, Go West" was calling him to grab his dream and find a place on the stages of Silent Movies. With his magnetic Italian good looks was a real advantage for him as he began his journey in 1926. At that time in our history there were very few paved roads and they found themselves driving in muddy roads along the now historic Route 66". Large ruts had formed in the clay roads and when it rained they flooded badly. There was a challenge for them to keep the ModelT Ford filled with fuel as "Filling Stations" were few and far between. Food was another consideration for them and sometimes found themselves killing a rabbit for dinner or otherwise , to go hungry. He told his kids later in life that they stopped by an old farm house and asked about gathering some snails they saw and the old farmer asked, "What the heck do you want them for" and was aghast when Dad told them they were going to eat them. Finally they reached their destination and couldn't wait to get started exploring the streets of Hollywood to find their destiny. The story of that trip will unroll here at Fine Art America as we share the story with pictures we discovered after his death in 1969. We are now bring those old negatives to life as we imagine our father on the Hollywood stages brushing shoulders with some of the most famous stars of the 1920s as he appeared in many movies. We sincerely hope you enjoy them. Look hidden in the attics or basements of your family and who knows what treasures you may find which are priceless!
