Open The Fire Hydrant - Its Summertime. In the 1940s, kids had no place to cool off except at the fire hydrant. Sometimes the firemen would stop when in the neighborhood and turn the hydrant on for a few minutes and kids came out of the woodwork in their underwear. Oh, what fun it was. We never knew what we were missing.
