Description
This Cormorant is perched on a small limb at Lake Apopka on the South Shore Trail. With its matte-black, yellow-orange facial skin, they have a prehistoric appearance. They are relatives of frigatebirds and boobies, but they look like a combination of goose and loon. They are common in fresh and saltwater throughout North America—perhaps attracting most attention when they stand on docks, rocky islands, and channel markers, drying their wings. The birds are expert divers and can catch small fish with ease.
