Description
The black and white Magpies entertained us while on a trip to Jackson Hole in January, about 10 years ago, in the depth of winter with minus degree temperatures.
They were flying quickly from one post to another and were not intimidated by me and my husband, what-so-ever! They seemed to have a mission that morning as the sun warmed the air despite the minus 10 degree temperature. To me it seemed to be in the 20's as there was no breeze.
We learned that there was a grainery close by which provided them with the nutrients they need to help keep their body warm in these frigid temperatures.
I have been told that the Magpie is one of the most intelligent birds in the world. After watching them go about their business for the week we stayed at that location, we firmly believe that is true.
They are also very handsome.
If you look close, you will see the peaks of the Grand Teton's on the right side where the snow meets the sky, just under the limbs of the magnificent Tree. There is so much captured in this photo and I hope you enjoy it.
